Canarro is an acoustic jazz band from Budapest. Our music brings French manouche swing together with the musical tradition of Hungarian cafés. The world of Django Reinhardt, the melodies of the violin, the pulse of colorful musical heritage of Budapest's music halls are what shape our sound. Our repertoire embraces jazz standards, Hungarian melodies, chansons and tangos. The freedom to improvise brings our music to life: we listen to one another, to the moment and to our audience. Violin · Vocals
Founder and driving force of the band, whose playing blends early twentieth-century European jazz with the old salon music of Budapest. His stage presence, gift for improvisation and chanson-like singing voice shape Canarro's distinctive character. A musician of wide horizons, he is a regular musical partner not only in swing but also in literary evenings, poetry readings and theatre productions.
Guitar
A standout of Hungary's elite guitar scene, whose name and playing have become synonymous with authentic, explosive swing and world-music sound. A key figure of the underground and ethno-jazz scene, he is a founding member of the legendary band Besh o droM. His distinctive rhythm and solo playing has made him a sought-after partner for celebrated artists such as violin virtuoso Félix Lajkó.
Guitar
The steady bastion of Canarro's rhythm section and a master of the pulsing "pompe" accompaniment that defines manouche swing. His playing creates that delicate yet dynamic acoustic drive which makes electronic amplification and the traditional drum kit unnecessary in classic line-ups.
Accordion
A true virtuoso of the accordion, who brings authentic Parisian atmosphere and the elegance of French chanson to the band's melodic world. Thanks to his mastery of the instrument and stylistic flexibility, he is one of Hungary's most in-demand accompanists in jazz and traditional café music. His melodies form a graceful bridge between nostalgia for a bygone century and boundless musical openness.
Double bass
A much-loved double bassist of the Hungarian jazz scene. His artistic calibre is reflected in his regular participation in the large-scale projects of the Modern Art Orchestra (MAO), the pinnacle of Hungarian jazz.
Drums
A jazz drummer of remarkably fine dynamics, swing sensibility and humble, selfless playing, who masterfully coordinates both traditional and modern pulse from behind the scenes. Like Attila Sidoo, he is a steady foundation of Papa Jazz, a band preserving the traditions of classic American hot jazz and swing. He is also a regular rhythm-section partner to the stars of the Hungarian jazz scene, including featured concerts associated with István Gyárfás, as well as the Tamás Szakál Quartet.
